Did you know that landfilled coffee grounds emit a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide? An article by DOW Group UK

Here at DOW UK, we’ve come up with some more environmentally friendly options to help you:

  • Coffee grounds can be used directly in the garden as a mulch to improve soil structure, water retention and plant health. You can even throw them directly on the lawn to add valuable nutrients.
  • Earthworms absolutely love coffee grounds! Not only do they help to enrich the soil, but they can also encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria and fungi in the worm bin. Remember, coffee grounds can be a great addition to your worm bin if you’re into vermicomposting.
  • Another option to recycle coffee grounds is to use them as a natural cleaning scrub. The rough texture can help clean dirty pots, pans, and tools without the need for harmful chemicals.
  • For non-gardeners, consider sharing your used coffee grounds with someone who composts. Local schools, community gardens or your neighbours might appreciate the contribution.

The next time you’re about to throw away your used coffee grounds, think again. It could be the start of your sustainable journey, and every small change in your daily life can make a difference.
